I'm wondering this too, since I've run into some trouble:
Everything builds fine (arts, kdelibs, kdebase) but when I want to start kde,
all I get is the splash screen (no startup sound), the grey background and
then Ktip.

Also, I can't start any KDE apps manually. When I try to do so from within an
xterm, they complain about the sycoca database being 46 instead of 47 and
then crash. I've also seen DCOP communication errors.

Because of the sycoca errors I tried to rebuild the database using
kbuildsycoca, but this prgram crashes too (maybe the other programs all crash
because they call kbuildsycoca?)...

It would be great if someone can point me in the right direction to fix this.
Thanks in advance!

Mvg,
