An obvious software bug. An easy fix in bazaar style programming would require possibly a 300 byte .patch file posted to the list, and those urgently affected would be able to patch their sources and recompile quickly. Judging from my statements, they needed nearly two weeks to fix that -- the "fixup" transactions were recorded today. I wonder how long [how many angry customer calls] it took them to realize something was amiss. And it was a damned C one-liner (or something else -- big and gross, if it wasn't a one liner).
