Now, March 5, 2002, we have completed most of our modifications to KDE's KPaint application. I have attached a screenshot of our version of the KPaint application as well as a .tar file (kpaint.tar.bz2) containing only the kpaint application directory under the KDEGraphics directory. I have listed below the items in which MCS has been able to accomplish since February 1, 2002. We at Mission Critical Systems hope that you will find these enhancements useful and implement these changes into the distributed version of the application. Items MCS has accomplished since 2/1/2002: 1) If the user clicks on File/SaveAs function and does not specify a file extension, KPaint will still save the file with the default extension of .JPG (JPEG format). 2) Added font selection capability on side toolbar. 3) Color of Text Tool is now determined by the color of the left mouse button. 4) Made the default color palette the "40 Colors" vs "*Recent Colors*". 5) Made the default tool to be the Pen vs the Ellipse tool. 6) Fixed missing Tool Properties icon on toolbar. 7) Added a "KDE Picture Editor" background behind canvas (like the KIconEditor). 8) Made modifications to change the cursor while hovering over the canvas to represent the appropriate tool being utilized. Changed the toolbar for canvas tools to use KToggleAction to show current tool being utilized. 9) Added a "Color Picker" tool to the side toolbar. 10) Increased line width option from 1-4 to 1-8. Moved the line width settings from the tool properties window to the side toolbar as a slider bar w/ label. 11) Fixed Text cursor beam to always display with a Pen width of 1 vs the left mouse button width. 12) Changed the Pencil toolbar icon and Spraycan toolbar icon. 13) The user is no longer allowed to select the Text tool while zooming. In conjunction, if the user is currently using the Text tool and chooses to zoom, the tool is changed to the Pen tool. 14) Added the cursor's canvas pixel location on the status bar (shows where the mouse pointer is at any given time). We display "Mouse not on canvas" when mouse pointer is not over the canvas. 15) Made the default canvas size 400X249. Subject: KPaint Updates

To Waldo/Rich,

I work for Mission Critical Systems (MCS) in Louisville, Ky (USA). Beginning on January 2, 2002, we started looking at the KPaint application and began identifying possible enhancements to the application. By February 1, 2002, we successfully loaded KDE 3.01Beta and QT3 and began coding our identified enhancements.

Items MCS has accomplished since 2/1/2002:

1) If the user clicks on File/SaveAs function and does not specify a file extension, KPaint will still save the file with the default extension of .JPG (JPEG format).

Changed the toolbar for canvas tools to use
KToggleAction to show current tool being utilized.
