Its something to do with the memory blocks allocated for the AGP buffer a= nd a=20 problem with the cache in the Athlon which means every so often the get m= ixed=20 up. I had a problem of the whole system freezing such that keyboard/screen/mo= use=20 appeared dead (although I believe I could still ssh into the machine from= =20 outside). This was often overnight (I loaded up the system with backups) = but=20 was random. =20 The workaround fixed the problem when I was on 2.4.17 - I am now running=20 2.4.19-pre2-ac4 and it appears OK without the workaround.
