Same problem here - same solution. After killing (with -9 as it often 
completely doesn't respond) kicker everything is fine again.
I am running marble theme, *not* liquid. A clean KDE 3.0 (KDE_3_0_RELEASE) 
installation.

My kicker is background-tiles enabled, I have a digital clock (not analog) and 
I have 12 virtual desktops. The rest is mostly default (I also have one child 
panel but the problem was also there without it). Yesterday I disabled the 
background tiles for kicker but the problem was still there.

A single difference (at least of what I can remember...) is that I once added 
a klipper applet instead of the normal docked klipper. I *currently* don't 
have the problem (after removing the klipper applet) anymore - but I'm still 
testing...

What is your kicker configuration?
