It could be this sort of thing that's causing the problems in jed for you too.  
Do you have debug enabled in your kdelibs build?  If so, could you enable 
area 125 in kdebugdialog, and email me the x session output when you start 
KDE up after setting Win+C in kmenuedit?  I haven't been able to reproduce 
this.  Also, please check that your copy of 
kdelibs/kdecore/kkeyserver_x11.cpp is at version 1.11 or higher.
