Hi!
  I think that I had also this problem and that I solved it!
  The problem is in old version of zlib. There is one supplied with XFree86
which makes just these problems. The required zlib is 1.1.3 but the one from
XFree86 is older. Please verify
  1) that You have zlib-1.1.3 instaled
  2) that there is no zlib in Your XFree86 tree. If it is, remove it including
its includes - it's only static libz.a so X will continue to run.
