there was some talk of that during development, but i never saw it 
and i don't think anyone else did, either. and kde-2 is certainly 
bigger than kde-1.x, with a whole bunch of new services -- artsd, 
korganizer alarms on by default -- which consume some memory and 
processor time. though i think that the observation that more memory 
is more important than more processor is entirely accurate.
