Even that can easily fail... if I have 10Mb free, root might have reserved 5Mb 
of it. I could create a 1Mb file, when root then allocates 5Mb I could free 
my 1Mb, but the 5Mb that is then free would all be reserved for root. I still 
wouldn't be able to write anything.
