Does multiwindow work?

when I do:
startx -multiwindow

at the last moment, the root window covers up my Windows Desktop and I cannot
hide the root. Also any new application I launch from the kicker does not get
its own Windows window or have an entry in the windows taskbar. I happen to be
running on XP pro.
