I think the largest problem is journaling takes up allot of disk space, 
granted with 60gig udma drives being dirt cheap this is not an issue.

I think it would be a neat idea though to have a standard facility in kdelibs 
that would allow for journaling in saved files (aka koffice)  the koffice 
document structure would make adding diffs at the end of the document a 
breeze.  (if koffice cvs is open for trashing i may look at the cvs again, 
David opinions?)  The cool thing about this is we would not add any new files 
for users to maintain, and we would be able to add revisioning to all koffice.

As for the rest of KDE, that leaves application temp files and the .kde dir.  
I do not think it is efficient to hijack other applications and provide 
revision control outside of kde.  

While we are on the subject of users files, it is a good point to bring up 
the point of backups.  Is there a way to do automated backups in KDE of ones 
files?  Journaling is great for those 1.4 meg kpresenter documents, but is 
insane for my 5gig of tgz files.  For those you need something that will back 
them up to a safe place(tm).

Just my 2 cents/ pfennig / or what ever the equivalent currency in your neck 
of the woods is.
