From kde-core-devel Mon Jul 23 20:00:03 2001 From: Waldo Bastian Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2001 20:00:03 +0000 To: kde-core-devel Subject: Re: KHelpcenter heading X-MARC-Message: https://marc.info/?l=kde-core-devel&m=99591860320604 Can't you just include a large PNG with the alphabet in the desired font and copy the characters one by one to draw the desired word? If you seperate all characters with a single pixel line we could detect the width of the individual characters automatically, although it wouldn't do kerning. Maybe the string should be accompanied then with a second string that contains hints for the inter-character spacing, that way it can be adjusted manually as part of the translation. But maybe it looks acceptable without that as well. That might still cause problems for non-western language of course, but those might be able to use an alternative PNG. This technique could then also be used for e.g. kde-edu where we probably need fancy large fonts for educational/entertainment purposes as well.
