Strange, because I use alpha blending as well and don't get flicker. With 
_and_ without alpha and with and without background image it always works 
fine.

Note that it seems to be impossible, though, to remove the flicker altogether 
if you have a different effect for active icons! I'm talking about a 
KonqFileIconView that uses the same effect for normal and active icons, with 
the same settings!  (i.e. KIconEffect::fingerPrint() returns the same value.)
