Unrealistic target, i.e. too >many features at once ? I don't know. Certainly different in each case. Just a word on translations: Thanks to the great work of our brand new proof-reading team, also to a 1900+ messagess PO file that turned up the last minute, and to quite a few new app strings (requested by developers) things are in worse shape at our end now than they were in former releases at this point. This is no complaint. It's great that all those misspelled strings were corrected and that others became translatable which weren't before but now many teams could just use some extra time to get this stuff translated. None of these points was really foreseeable when the release plan was posted (except maybe developers requesting new strings;-). >But until we have some mechanism for feature plans (your proposal above) I >urge every developer to a) set himself realistic goals (safe side >calculation, there *will* be another release) and b) speak up in time OK, as a personal statement and just for the record: I think the "one beta only" approach is fundamentally wrong. Users should not only have a fair chance to report bugs but also get at least another test version to check whether the bugs were fixed or not. And to check whether a bug fix didn't break the app at another point. From a translators point again: To me, it wouldn't make much difference if the requested extra time would come from a delayed beta release or from a extended beta period. (And to avoid misunderstandings: the message freeze should be kept either way -- new strings only after talking to the translators.)
