I ran into this problem as well. A work around is to try setting the VNC
server depth to 16 bits (when you run vncserver). That seemed to fix it.
For some reason using an 8 bit Xvnc server crashes just about all of KDE. I
haven't looked into it any further. This was on solaris. -- Dan
