Great idea. I had thought about some support like that for several
dialogs a good while ago. Dialogs tend to pop up right on top of
your document, taking away your focus from it. I.e. a Ctrl-S in 
emacs, asking for the text to be searched in the statusline is less
obtrusive than popping up a find-dialog.
