  Unfortunately spelling problems in most European countries are solved by 
the way of authority of linguists, while in the US through the authority of 
mass media. 

  I would gladly accept the authority of Knuth over the typical linguists for 
my native language (hungarian), as they are constantly proposing ridiculous 
spellings and naturalizations of technical words. 

  Well, and I tend to agree that no word having a single letter separated 
with a hyphen will be accepted as a final spelling in any language. 

              Lotzi (looking forward to the moment when some hungarian 
linguist will come up with the spelling "imályl", maybe they already did).
