For me this looks like a Qt bug. it happens when the animation finished
before the loading of the complete .gif finished. 

loading the image from disk i.e. works, while loading it from the net
doesn't. 

I was looking into it for the last few hours but lost track in
the heap of Qt changes in the last weeks. :-(
