Hmm, I have to withdraw that after looking deeper in KDirWatch's code.
It stats whatever it's told to stat, whether it's a file or directory...
KDirWatch works fine in e.g. konqueror (for stating dirs, but it shouldn't
make a difference finally), so I suspect the bug is not in KDirWatch...
