Subject: Mild panic: kio doesn't handle fast mimetype checking

I am in a very tiny state of panic right now because KPresenter
is incable of saving my work. Since my presentation needs to be done
by Friday, this is going to fast become a serious problem.

Tracing it down, it appears to not be KPresenter's fault. It seems
that when KMimeType::findByURL( m_url, 0, TRUE ) is used on a url that
ends with '.kpr', the result is not what is expected. What *should*
come back is 'application/x-kpresenter' -- instead, nothing matches
and 'application/octet-stream' is returned.

Further checking shows that kio is simply not recognizing mimetypes
based on extensions. If I do this:

touch me.html
touch me.gz
touch me.kpr

one would expect to see the proper icons displayed in konqueror even
though there is nothing in them. However, all three show the unknown
icon with an unknown type.

I am reasonably sure that this problem and the KPresenter not saving
problem are identical.

Any clues what went wrong?
