Ok, the splash screen appears. Then the rest of KDE is loaded. As components are loaded, they send a DCOP signal to the splash screen, so it can show that they have loaded. This could be done with a progress bar, or with icons that are shown/highlighted. Look at http://www.geoid.clara.co.uk/ksplash_test.png for an example. You can see icons at the top left, which are highlighted as kdesktop, kcminit and kicker are loaded. The screen goes away when ksmserver is running. Rik
