kaim is under heavy development. It has been ported over to 2.0 and
there
are now several people working on it. The project is on sourceforge if
you
want to try the snapshots.

One thing I would like to see is an app that supports all these differnt
chat protocols in one place. I have seen this for Gnome and I think it
is
the way to go.
