It's not a stupid idea at all. I don't overlap windows myself. I usually
just have one term for normal use and one running Vim. If I'm using Gimp
or something, I arrange the windows so they don't overlap, as that really
annoys me.

Makes sense IMO. I can see the desktop idea changing in the future, and
this is likely to be one of the things that will happen.

BTW, I hardly ever see people making use of multiple windows while they
use Windows. They will maximise what they're working on. Those who have
some confidence might split the window they're using (MS Word is an
example) but to switch tasks, they just use the 'taskbar'.
