this is a thing I'm also thinking about... could double-click be used as
an additional feature even in single-click mode? I mean, there's
no way to make this work with just a single click - double-click would
would be an option. Or should double-click be completely avoided in
single-click mode?

The same problem is in kfiledialog, you could select a file with
doubleclick, as in single-click mode, you can only highlight the file and
then press the OK-button.

Opinions?

Cheers,
