It works in adding a rc.cpp behind the messages: target and include
rc.cpp
into your list of to extracted sources.
Look at kwrite for an example how to do it.
And if you're brave enough, look at admin/Makefile.common's
package-messages
target for details how it's done.
It's as simple as

          (cd $$subdir ;\
           if test -n "`grep 'messages: rc.cpp'`"; then \
                $(EXTRACTRC) *.rc > rc.cpp ;\
           fi ;\
           $(MAKE) -f Makefile.am XGETTEXT="$(XGETTEXT) -C -ki18n
-kI18N_NOOP -ktranslate -kaliasLocale -x $(includedir)/kde.pot" messages
> $$tmpname 2>&1 ) || cat $$tmpname; \
           test -f $$subdir/rc.cpp && rm -f $$subdir/rc.cpp

It said Windows 95 or better, so in theory Linux should run it
                                                GeorgeH on /.
