Ha ha ha, I got it. The horizontal distance between two icons
is computed using the full length of the filename !

The distance is computed _as if_ the second file had its
text on a single line. The fact that it's word_wrapped isn't
taken into account.
BTW, bug 2729 (the one that started this thread) is still there :(
