I agree with the above (if I understand it correctly), what you
want is a project wide library that implements these things and decides
on policy. A small example of this is the eiffel.h in nana that implements
something akin to the Eiffel programming language Design By Contract
ideas.

One other thing to note is that nana is based on ANSI C (whenever
possible), GNU CC (when ANSI C cannot do it) and finally C++. Since
KDE is C++ based the fit is far from perfect and a redesign for C++
using things like coercion, etc would be useful. 

Anyway how do we proceed from here? 

1. People who are interested write down a set of ideas/requirements
   and Mirko/myself/anyone else has a think about them?
