Hi,

The current dirtree configuration is bad, because
 a) it is hidden to the user (I doubt any user wants to browse into
$prefix/share/apps/konqueror/dirtree directory in order to configure
    it)
 b) it requires me (or someone else) to write a GUI for configurable
toplevel items. (and obey permissions for changing items, etc.)

So I'd like to improve this:

I want to make KonqDirTree look in KUserPaths::desktopPath() for
 1) directories
 2) Type=Link .desktop files
 3) Type=FSDevice .desktop files

and create the dirtree from this structure.

Advantages:
 - the structure of the dirtree is transparent/obvious to the user.
 - we get a GUI for configuring the dirtree for free :-)
   (kdesky)
 - I believe that many users already have a bunch of Type=Link .desktop
files on their desktop. -> they can be "reused" .

Are there any objections against implementing this?

(and: what do people think about adding a Type=Link .desktop file for /
and $HOME to the desktop by default, too?)

Bye,
 Simon
