Did you try running a session manager? 

Maybe SESSION_MANAGER was defined ( !NULL). 

That's a problem/bug we observed with ICE, still waiting for a reply from the
ICE authors.

I have a workaround on my harddisk, but that requires coolo linking libdcop to
libsm (in addition).
