I'm not aware of a single theory that says "adding complexity makes things  
more robust" so i'd avoid adding anything to such a critical process that  
does not /have/ to be there (let alone "not belongs there")

I don't say one could not decide to implement such functionality in the DM  
and if was about an editor, which can also be a screensaver, entertainment  
center, calculator, filemanager, browser, mail client, ... well "emacs",  
i'd just say "hell yes, if you like it?" - but it's not.
