Seriously, you said you switched to xfce... Which KDE 4.x version was the last one you tested ? At least since 4.5 plasma is rock solid and fast. I haven't found anything which I could configure with KDE 3 but can't with KDE >= 4.5. Give it a try again :-) Alex
