True. The alternative patch I've seen was to add new functions with the new 
behaviour and then make Qt start using them. This would enable the behaviour 
per-connection (the connection Qt opens isn't shared with anyone).

The trade-off is that other bindings that, like Qt, were ready, won't get the 
automatic fix.
