IMO, leaving 5% is not sensible. The Windows/Linux standard of using one large 
500Gb partition is common, but hardly ubiquitious. Leaving me only 5% on my 
2Gb home partition is unreasonable. There are many use cases where temporary 
disk usage may need more than 5% of a partition. Building software is a good 
example.

Also, a sensible default needs to be based on the remaining space when 
strigidaemon first starts. Leaving 5% when it started with 50% free is a lot 
different than leaving 5% when it started with only 10% free.

p.s. Having run out of room last weekend while building software, I cast my 
vote for a dialog at first run. I'm used to seeing dialogs the first time I 
ever run a program, so this is no great strain for me.
