I've heard lots of things here and there, but to quote from FOSSwire:  "The 
project basically was started off on the wrong foot, and it has been a mess 
from a developer standpoint ever since."  :-)

I assume you mean GLib + GTK?  Or are they creating custom widgets on top of 
GLib?
