Not an abbreviation, just a short version of the words "Effects" (as said in 
english" - Eff Exx.  "FX" has been used here in the US for a long time now, 
theres even a movie (with sequels) of the same name based on a special 
effects guy, and his assistance to the police dept (fictional).
