What do you define as a hard requirement? From the user's point of view both 
of these are very important use cases that are one of the primary reasons 
they actually are using their computers for. Otherwise it wouldn't be that 
99% of all PCs/Notebooks out there come with a CD/DVD burner. And the same is 
true for SD card slots and the like.
