No, it's not. In my opinion. We don't want a feature just because it's 
possible to implement, or if someone is willing to maintain it. That kind of 
mentality leads to feature overflow, I'd say.

What features/apps that should be available in KDE, depends on what KDE, as in 
desktop environment, attempts to achieve. This is perhaps "Functional, but 
not more complex than necessary." Having two editors is complexity. The 
question is if KEdit is needed in addition to Kate for supplying basic 
editing functionality.

I don't mind anyone maintaining any application such as KEdit in 
kde-extragear(or sourceforge, or similar). However, what's part of the 
desktop environment, the thing used by regular people all over the world, 
needs some extra thought.
