Here is my opinion:
I am very much against changing hundreds of strings in the stable branch. The
system that seems to work is that you ask if you can change a few strings and
after a few days do that. And _not_ the day before a release, there has to be
a week or so before release where nothing is changed.
3.5.1 and 3.5.2 where docbooks were _developed_ in the stable branch were a
disaster from a translation point of view. I think the only way docbooks can
be changed is by backporting from trunk. That way the docbooks can be tested
in trunk and we don't get stable ahead of trunk as happened last time, making
it very cumbersome to find out whether to backport or forward port. It varied
from module to module.
As a corrollary when you start developing docbooks for kde 4.0 you should stop
revising docbooks for 3.5.* or do it outside svn.
