It depends on the version of GTK+ you have, and whether the program in
question has been re-written to support it (since apparently they have
different interfaces).
But basically there's either the crappy one with the line edit and the
separate micro-sized directory and file boxes, or the crappy one with no line
edit and the single micro-sized directory and file box. Presumably the user
finds the concept of /a/directory/file far too complex to even allow it to be
shown to them. (Speaking of which, for those who don't like media:/ and the
like, remember that it could always be worse...)
