exactly =)

this is a complementary method to browsing. imagine if you couldn't type urls 
into your webbrowser, but always had to start at the Yahoo hierarchy and 
browser from there? not only is it cumbersome, not all listings are there, 
and you may not know which category something is in. 

sometimes browsing is the perfect thing, sometimes typing in an address is the 
perfect thing. we can support both.

a combination of system:/ and remote:/ with autodiscovery (which should be a 
superset of lan:/ as i think you noted if i understood your mail correctly)..

the next question is how to make this pretty, accessable and obvious.
