Again in the spirit of focusing the issue:  if the translation is not there,
there is no point in offering the option (indeed from a usability point of view
it should not be displayed or be greyed out).  If it's a missing font issue, I
wonder if that can be easily detected?  If not one could use an image for the
language name (either as primary or as backup if it can't be rendered).
