Found it. You probably have a copy of these kdeglobals settings in your 
drkonqirc file. After writing these settings back to drkonqirc it would not 
also write them back to kdeglobals. Without the merging of the on-disk 
kdeglobals that proved fatal. Re-enabled the unconditional on-disk merging 
for kdeglobals.
