Actually the problem with 'regular' DBs is not that they scale, but that they are designed for concurrent access. They have complex locking schemes that increase the performance of simultanous transactions from different connections, but make your single-threaded application slower. If you really want a SQL-based DB, use one that has been designed for embedded use. This would also solve the installation problem. bye...
