I am not a patent expert either :-)
The fact that KDE is mentioned does not mean that the patent applies to KDE.
In fact I would argue that the fact that KDE gets mentioned acknowledges
existing KDE versions as prior art.
- From reading the patent I do not get the impression that this patent affects
current versions of KDE. I do not know whether it will affect KDE in the
future, since I don't know what people will put in KDE in the future. I can
only advice KDE developers not to implement any of the ideas expressed in
this patent.
