Well ac/am is heck better than dmake/qmake :) Take a look at 
qsa/openoffice/current qt-copy (with broken .la support) to see that ac/am, 
though sucking, is not the worst.
As for KLM, please, this is kind of overdoing it :)
BTW. I took a look at unsermake, is it ready to be used to build kde? If this 
was a way to simplify building kde, I might like it :)
