Ok - but why is there still a "Delete" button then ?

Sure.

I think it's not good UI practice to
* have a delete and a hide button that basically do the same as far as the user is concerned
* show an error message box "You can't delete this item" instead of disabling the delete action
(this problem goes away if there's no more delete button anyway)
