Huh? I thought "-kde" is dead with Qt 3.x . We can cope quite perfect with 
designer without requiering it to be a KApplication.

The problem is an different one:

All directories in kdelibs compiling _after_ kdewidgets can use UIC (even with 
kde widgets), the ones before can use UIC with Qt widgets only (which is a 
pity because you might want to use neat widgets like KURLRequester :).

Another problem is that kdewidgets can't be used at all if trolltech doesn't 
come to the conclusion that they really should include the headerfilename in 
the .ui file...
