Or use another font... Actually it only occurs when using adobe-helvetica, which
comes (on my Mandrake-8.0 system) in different encodings, especially iso10646-1
and iso8859-1. But there's other helvetica fonts (URW, MDK) that don't seem
to have that problem, or at least they do not include iso10646-1 encoding.

No idea. The adobe helvetica fonts are part of my XFree86-75dpi-fonts. But
it may be different in other systems.
