Short follow-up for another reason why it would be nice of uic
would be able to generate .cpp/h code without dlopening widget
plugins:

Imagine you have a self-containing application that provides
a self-made widget and uses that widget in a .ui file. For
compiling the application initially on a clean system you
would need to compile the widget separately as plugin first,
install it and then compile the application for real, including
calls to uic. Software that needs to install shared libraries
before it can complete its own compilation is not nice software :-) ,
and it makes cross compilation to another platform completely 
impossible (in a clean installation) .

Almost a henn-egg problem ;-)
