Ok, this might be the case. It happened on AXP with a non-gcc compiler as 
far as I understood it. 

hmm. so we should switch to a static_cast ? when its specified in the 
constructor the dynamic cast shouldn`t be necessary. 

the question is if the compiler is broken or if our configure hackery does 
something wrong. I'll ask him.
